BOD is proud to announce our Urban Design & Sustainability Program (UDSP) will commence July 5, 2016 at Renaissance Charter School in Queens. The UDSP is the first permaculture education program in a New York City public school, incorporating Arts (permaculture design) into STEM education to create STEAM.
Children get it: the world’s connected. The UDSP emphasizes that interconnectivity and shows students how they can design solutions to urban challenges---not only for their community but for the world. Much of what students hear today is doom and gloom, leaving them cynical and afraid. The UDSP is a solutions-oriented program that replaces fear with optimism. Students need to feel empowered and hopeful in such a changing, complex world. The UDSP is a new type of educational program. We’ll teach students through observation and experiential, hands-on education in addition to traditional classroom lectures because everyone learns differently. Students are exploring engineering, architecture, environmental issues, agriculture, the global economy, social justice, and so much more. Children will tend to a rooftop garden and learn the value biodiversity. Guest teachers and artists will hold workshops on __________, ___________, and _____. Field trips to exciting venues like the Queens County Farm, the Brooklyn Grange, _________________, and ________________, will round out their experience. S.E.E.D. PROGRAMBeyond Organic Design's S.E.E.D. (Sustainability Education Ecological Design) Program, 45 min modules that are ideal for school visits or afterschool programs, debuted in the Fall of 2014.
S.E.E.D. Program provides students a whole-systems view of the world through experiential learning that incorporates sustainability, agriculture, and ecological design into educational curriculums. The S.E.E.D Program is tailored individually for the needs of the school and community. Interested in the S.E.E.D. Program for your school?
