The Permaculture Internship Program BOD's Urban Design and Sustainability Program, was the first educational program to integrate permaculture design into New York City schools. This weekly elective trains students from 9th to 12th grade to use permaculture design, math, science and more, to tackle community food challenges and opportunities. Students analyze current events, interview community leaders, conduct agro-ecological research, apprentice with professionals and use online design softwares, to create sustainable solutions for their communities. At the end of the program, the students get to exit with a digital portfolio of work that will give them a competitive edge in the organic industry, plus the option of exiting the program with a professional permaculture design certificate: the Urban Design and Sustainability Training (UDST). Upon successful completion of the training program, students may also be awarded with an internationally recognized certificate from the Permaculture Institute of North America (PINA), a professional trade association. |
